Forced Migration: Why and how we support displaced migrants

Every year, millions of people are forced to migrate out of their home countries due to conflict, war, natural disasters, climate change, or in the quest for greener pastures.
According to the International Organization for Migration, irregular migration is “the movement of persons that takes place outside the laws, regulations, or international agreements governing the entry into or exit from the State of origin, transit or destination”.

Different agencies and governments have varying definitions of forced migration but they all center around the forced removal of individuals from their familiar territory or associated connections. UN Refugee Agency statistics reports that about 84.2 million men, women, and children were forcibly displaced from their homes at the end of 2020 as a result of persecution, violence, human rights violations, or events seriously disturbing the public order.
These displaced migrants have to start a new life in a host country that is completely strange to them – as refugees. They often become vulnerable citizens among the population – subject to physical attacks, racism, sexual assault, etc. The women and girls among them are oftentimes victims of gender-based violence, trafficking, and prostitution. These displaced migrants have no access to basic life amenities such as food, clothing, or shelter, exposing those who can’t cope with them to criminal activities. The hardships they go through sometimes lead to psychological traumas.

A collaborative approach is needed in the protection of displaced migrants and more importantly their sustenance in their new host countries. Even though governments, international agencies, and NGOs have shown interest in these directions, much still needs to be done.

This is why Liberty Experience runs a series of impact-driven workshops that raises awareness of the hardships that displaced migrants go through en route to their destinations and vehicle living in their host countries. The workshop, titled “Listen to Stories of Displaced Migrants” is presented to diverse audiences from different countries around the world. We aim to provide a platform for displaced migrants to personally tell their stories, share opinions, and have the opportunity to engage socially with the citizens of their host community and beyond.

If you and your team would like to participate in this workshop in the future, you can read more and register here: https://libertyexperience.org/social-workshop/
Moreover, as part of our goal to help migrants smoothly integrate into their host country, Liberty Experience runs an initiative that provides musically talented displaced migrants with platforms to showcase their talents and build their musical careers. All these help us drive positive social change. Through this initiative, we have helped many displaced migrants get basic life amenities and to contribute positively to their new communities.
